March 15-19, 2010

Welcome! We will have the PASS writing test on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. This week we will continue  reading Seal Surfer.  Our focus will be comprehension, vocabulary, and comparing and contrasting characters in the story.  We will make an outline to use as a guide for  our rough draft.  We will edit our writing and publish it. We will continue reading books and creating story maps. Our word study will include words with the prefixes dis, mis, un, and re.
We will continue reading and taking Accelerated Reader tests.  In order to qualify for the end-of-the-year Reading Celebration, the children need 40 points by May 15, 2010.   Your child's goal this year is to read for a total of 40 points.  Each student will read books on their level. Ask your child about our "Here's the Scoop" bulletin board in the hall where each student is earning scoops  to show how many AR points they have earned.  Please encourage your child to read independently and take their tests each week.
Homework:   Please remember that Reading Logs are due every Friday
(Reading Logs receive a weekly grade).

Weekly Reading Log
Each week your child is supposed to turn in a weekly reading log.  This represents at least 20 minutes of reading each day.  They should write a summary on their reading log form and have it signed.  It is due every Friday.
Your child may read a book of their choice each night for their reading log.  They are to write a summary telling about what they read in the space on the Reading Log.
The Reading Log is sent home on Mondays.  The reading log is available on this web page under class files, Weekly Reading  Log.
